This year, 2020, the choir dinner was held at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth, where a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Guests, friends and family all came together to celebrate the 25 years of the Corran Singers. Presentations were made during the evening to Ferryside Life Boat and to Breast Care Wales from proceeds from concerts held by the choir.
Chairperson Ann Brown thanked everyone for their contribution during the year and for all the hard work that had made it another successful one. She also thanked the Musical Director Mrs Heather Jenkins and Accompanist Mrs Ann Harry for the dedication and commitment each week to ensure the success of the choir.

Our trip this year was organised by Linda Metcalf of Unlimited Voices Travel, who together with Bysiau Cwm Taf, Whitland, took us safely to the Yorkshire Hotel in Harrogate, where we stayed for 5 days. A trip was arranged to visit Castle Howard, followed by a lunchtime recital at Ripon Cathedral. The choir sat in the choir stalls and enjoyed the experience of singing in such a splendid venue.
The second concert a few days later was at St Lawrence’s Church in Northallerton, a beautiful country church, where the choir received a wonderful welcome. The church was full and everyone joined in the hymns before and after the concert. A true Welsh programme is what they wanted and they were thrilled with the event, with a singalong after the wonderful food to end an evening enjoyed by all.
Liverpool in May 2016 was a great success. We had a varied programme of music to sing in the Catholic Cathedral and also sang a few items in the Anglican Cathedral. On our way home we managed to find an appreciative audience in Chester Cathedral as well (and did an encore on the steps outside afterwards!). We were blessed with hot sunshine every day despite the fact that the Eastern side of Britain was having torrential rain and gales. Of course the sun always shines on the righteous!
In October 2016 we had a trip to London where we had a magnificent concert in the Welsh Church of Central London in Oxford Circus We were supported by the superb soloists, Jessica Robinson (Soprano) and Gethin Lewis (Tenor). Both soloists were oustanding and the audience had an excellent evening’s entertainment. The following morning, we supported a Harvest Festival Service in St James Church in Sussex Gardens. This was another very successful trip and thoroughly enjoyed by all despite the cost of the drinks in the London pubs!
Having fun and socialising
Corran Singers was formed in 1994 by people who loved choral singing - if there were people around who liked to listen, so much the better. Every Thursday the choir met in the local church and held concerts and regular events raising funds for various charities.
In October 2005, the choir went on their first choir tour to Pipriac, in Brittany, which was very successful, singing in Pampont Abbey, and Pipriac Church.
Membership currently stands at 43. In the 21 years of the choir's existence this philosophy has remained unchanged - they sing for the joy of singing, they give their services free of charge and have raised thousands of pounds for charitable causes along the way. Singing to a wide range of audiences throughout South West Wales the choir has built up a very varied repertoire. Aiming to appeal to all ages their music ranges from the “Faure - Cantique De Jean Racine”, “The Trumpet shall Sound”, a choral anthem, to songs from West End musicals and more traditional Welsh items, “Y Tangnefeddwyr”, “Gwcw Fach” to the Teddy Bears' Picnic and the African National Anthem.
The choir is based in Laugharne, in Carmarthenshire, with choir members coming from many walks of life and travel from a wide area of West Wales to rehearse every Thursday evening. Led for the last 14 years by Musical Director Heather Jenkins and accompanied by Ann Harry the choir has been on a roller coaster of success. Having produced two CD’s entitled "Every Morning When I Wake" and “Evening at Sundown”, both named after words from the famous work of Dylan Thomas, famous poet, who lived in Laugharne, available from all choir members and during the tour.
In October 2008 the choir toured France, visiting Paris and on to Caen, giving two concerts, one in St Catherine’s Church in Honfleur and the other in the Eglise Reforme Church in Caen. A further tour in October 2011 when the choir sang in York Minster, where they received a wonderful audience from all the visitors in the Minster at the time. During the tour they also sang at St Andrews Church in Aldborough, and in St Bartholmews Church in Leeds. In 2013 the choir visited Cork, Ireland singing in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral and St Anne’s Church Shandon. During 2014 the choir visited Llandudno singing in Bangor Cathedral during the tour of North Wales. In 2015 the choir visited Liverpool singing at the Metropolitan Cathedral and various other churches on route. In 2016 the choir also visited Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral and the Welsh Church of London and St James’ Church Paddington.
The choir hold their Annual Patrons Concert each year and are available for wedding bookings. The Corran Singers website www.corransingers.co.uk.
